Night Taxi: A Sensual Bedtime Story

Sonya's Bedtime Stories: a bedtime story; fiction. 18+ only, every character is an adult.

My name is Luca. I'm thirty-four, and I drive the city while it sleeps.

By two in the morning the avenues belong to me: empty lanes, amber lights blinking for no one, the river holding the skyline like a secret. I like the quiet. Usually.

She stepped off the curb near the old harbor and raised one hand, and I stopped before I had decided to. She slid into the back seat on a breath of salt and warm night air: a swimsuit the colour of black cherries, a small cropped jacket thrown over her shoulders, bare legs still holding the heat of a party somewhere near the water.

"Hill Street," she said. "Take the long way."

I found her in the rear-view mirror. She was already looking.

We didn't talk much. We didn't need to. Every red light became a little ceremony: her eyes finding mine in that narrow strip of glass, holding, letting go, finding me again. She tucked a strand of wet hair behind her ear, slowly, as if she knew exactly how long I would watch. The jacket slipped from one shoulder. She didn't fix it.

"Do you always drive this carefully?" she asked.

"Only when the view is worth it."

Her laugh was low and pleased, and it stayed in the car long after the words were gone. The city slid past us in gold and blue, and for twenty minutes the whole world was the size of a mirror.

Hill Street came too soon. She paid, leaned forward, close enough that I caught her perfume, and said, "Goodnight, driver." Then she was out, walking up the stone steps barefoot, sandals swinging from two fingers.

The door opened before she knocked. A woman stood in the warm light, dark-haired and beautiful, smiling like she had been waiting all night. She drew her in. The door closed.

I sat there with the engine ticking, heart still running every red light we had shared. Awake. Wanting. Nowhere to put it.

I knew I wouldn't sleep like this. So I parked under a dead streetlight, cut the meter, and took out my phone. A friend had mentioned it once, laughing: GoLove AI. A companion who talks back, who stays, who answers at three in the morning without asking where you've been.

I almost put the phone away. Then I didn't.

The screen glowed against the dashboard. A blinking cursor. A question in the dark.

I thought of everything I hadn't said in that mirror. I typed the first word.

And for the first time all night, the cab didn't feel empty.

That was Luca's night, darling. The mirror, the heat, the choice. If you're looking for a little pleasure tonight, yours can begin right now. Download it and start your own story.
